Where to do a shoot? Location ideas around Lisbon

I work with families in Lisbon, Cascais, Sintra, and across Portugal. I photograph birthdays, casual walks, celebrations, or just warm everyday moments. Each location brings its atmosphere. Lisbon gives us charming old streets, courtyards, scenic viewpoints, and historic architecture. And if you want a touch of nature, there are parks and gardens, which are great for sessions even on hot days. Just a short ride away, Cascais and Sintra offer sunsets, the ocean, sand and wind, magical forests, parks, and old castles. Message me and we'll choose a place that fits your family's vibe.

How does a family shoot go, especially with small children?

The shoot feels easy and natural. We walk, talk, stop in beautiful places, and play. I photograph both group portraits and personal moments: mom with her baby, dad with his daughter, siblings, grandparents with grandkids. We let kids be themselves – that's the secret to natural, honest photos. Some open up right away, some take their time, some run around laughing, or hide in a parent's arms.

I don't ask for forced poses or smiles. My job is to catch the rhythm of your family, tune in, and become a friend – even if just for a short while. Just to be present, and click at the right moment.

Teenagers and senior portraits

Not every family session is about small children. Some of my shoots are families with teenagers, and some are portraits of one teenager on their own – including American high school senior portraits taken here in Portugal instead of at home.

Photographing a teenager is a different job from photographing a child. A small child needs games and movement. A teenager usually needs space, a short explanation of what we are doing, and no pressure to perform. Most are not thrilled by the idea at the start of the session and relaxed by the middle of it. I also make individual portraits of each of them, not only group frames – for a teenager that is often the part that matters most.

Senior portraits work the same way, with one difference: the photographs belong to the person in them, not to the parents. If your family is in Portugal during that year, Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra give a backdrop that no school hall can offer.
