Proposal photo shoots Andrew & Sophie: A Sunset Proposal at Miradouro das Portas do Sol, Alfama May 16th, 2026

The viewpoint was busy when we arrived. It usually is. People were stopping for photos, enjoying the view, and waiting for the sun to go down. But when Andrew decided it was time, something almost magical happened. The crowd moved away, and for a few moments it felt as if the whole viewpoint belonged only to them.

Andrew got down on one knee, and Sophie said yes.

Her reaction was full of real emotion, big smiles, laughter, and the kind of happiness that cannot be staged. She wore a striking bright dress with a long flowing skirt, and it became part of the story of the photos. The fabric moved beautifully in the evening breeze and made every frame feel more alive.

After the proposal, we walked through the streets of Alfama while the sunset light was still soft and warm. Sophie’s dress stood out against the red details of Lisbon, the tiled façades, old walls, terracotta roofs, and narrow streets. The contrast gave the photos a strong Lisbon character without taking attention away from the two of them.

Andrew and Sophie were playful, affectionate, and completely comfortable with each other. That made the session easy to photograph. I gave them small prompts along the way, moments to walk together, hold each other, laugh, or simply look at one another. Nothing complicated, just enough guidance to keep the photos natural and full of movement.

By the end of the walk, we had a complete story: a quiet surprise proposal in the middle of a busy Lisbon viewpoint, Sophie’s joyful reaction, beautiful sunset light, and a romantic walk through Alfama with all its colour, texture, and energy.
