The day began with a wide view of the InterContinental Hotel and Angela's traditional red wedding dress waiting inside. Before anything became busy, I photographed the setting and the details that introduced the first part of their wedding story.
Angela took a moment to look closely at the embroidery of her dress before hair and makeup began. Red is traditionally associated with happiness and good fortune, and its rich colour immediately gave the morning a distinct visual character.
The preparation was detailed work. Hair, makeup and jewellery all had to come together, so I moved between wider photographs of the room and close images of the hands working around Angela.
The ornate headpiece completed Angela's traditional look. It required careful adjustment, but the process also created expressive photographs of anticipation, concentration and the occasional laugh between everyone helping her.
Once Angela was ready, I made a few quiet portraits in her red dress. At the same time, Eddy was beginning his own preparations in a blue traditional outfit, giving the two sides of the morning completely different colours and moods.
Eddy's embroidered blue jacket was bold enough to deserve its own photographs. I also used the hotel architecture around him, connecting his preparation to the larger setting where the rest of the day would unfold.
A red wedding decoration marked the entrance to Angela's room. Eddy arrived with flowers, but reaching the bride would not be as simple as walking through the door. The bridesmaids had prepared several challenges first.
The groomsmen were quickly involved in the door games. Some challenges included deliberately silly costumes and tasks designed to test their confidence while giving everyone in the room a good reason to laugh.
The games continued with questions and small performances. My job was to follow the action without controlling it, watching both the participants and the people in the background reacting to each new challenge.
What looked chaotic was actually one of the most structured parts of the morning. The bridesmaids controlled the pace, the groomsmen tried to negotiate their way forward, and Angela watched everything from inside the room.
Eddy eventually reached Angela, but there were still a few final tasks and playful negotiations. Red envelopes formed part of the tradition, while the bride and her friends made sure he had properly earned his entrance.
After completing the challenges, Eddy could finally take Angela with him. The games ended with a much quieter moment between the couple before they moved on to the family ceremonies.
The transition began with Eddy carrying Angela and the tea service being prepared. The pace changed immediately, moving from loud games and jokes to a respectful ceremony centred on their parents.
Angela and Eddy offered tea together, kneeling before their parents as they received blessings and gifts. I photographed the formal actions, but also the expressions that appeared before and after each cup was exchanged.
Red decorations continued throughout the rooms as the couple moved to the next part of the family ceremony. Following them between locations was important because the story involved both sets of parents.
The second tea ceremony repeated some of the traditional actions with another side of the family. Once it was complete, Angela and Eddy had a short break before preparing separately for the Western ceremony.
Eddy changed into a black suit and bow tie. These preparation photographs focused on clean details such as his collar, shoes and cuff, creating a clear visual transition from the Chinese morning ceremony.
With Eddy ready, we made portraits with his groomsmen against the open ocean view. The strong architecture and bright sky gave the photographs a very different feeling from the busy indoor games earlier.
While the men were outside, Angela began preparing in another part of the hotel. Photographing both locations helps the finished gallery feel continuous even when the bride and groom spend several hours apart.
Angela's white wedding dress, bouquet and shoes introduced a softer palette. The pink flowers also connected naturally with the matching dresses chosen for her bridesmaids.
The final makeup and jewellery adjustments were made while the bouquet waited nearby. I stayed close for these details but avoided interrupting the conversations and small moments happening around Angela.
The bridesmaids helped Angela into her dress and arranged the fabric around her. Their matching pink dresses gave the room a consistent colour while each person still brought a different reaction to the photographs.
Before leaving, I made a few bridal portraits using the doorway and the available window light. A simple silhouette also showed the shape of Angela's dress without adding anything unnecessary to the frame.
Outside, the bouquet and ceremony chairs were already in place. The floral design used vivid pinks and reds, continuing the colours that had appeared throughout the morning.
Wedding stationery and small personal details were photographed before the ceremony. Angela then joined her bridesmaids for group portraits, giving everyone a few minutes together before walking outside.
The matching dresses created a strong group portrait, but I also photographed the bridesmaids as individuals moving towards the ceremony. These transitional moments keep the gallery from feeling like a sequence of posed groups.
Angela arrived at the ceremony with the people closest to her. It was a bright, cloudless part of the day, with strong sunlight falling directly across the pool and glass stage.
The ceremony stood in the middle of the pool beneath a large circular arrangement of flowers. Strong midday light can be demanding, but 20 years of experience has taught me how to work with it while preserving skin tones, colour and the atmosphere of the setting.
Angela and Eddy exchanged their words beneath the floral arch while the guests watched from both sides. I alternated between close photographs of the couple and reactions from their families and friends.
The glass platform reflected the sky, flowers and people standing above it. Rather than avoiding the intense light, I used the reflections and saturated colours to make the setting part of the photographs.
As the formal ceremony came to an end, the view widened to include everyone around the pool. These photographs show the scale of the celebration while keeping Angela and Eddy at its centre.
A balloon release brought the guests into one shared moment. The pink and white balloons rose above the pool while everyone looked upwards, creating some of the most colourful photographs of the ceremony.
Afterwards, the wedding party moved to the beach. With the formal part behind them, the bridesmaids and groomsmen could walk, talk and enjoy the short time before the couple's portrait session.
We made a few group photographs with the bridesmaids before Angela and Eddy continued along the beach together. The light was already beginning to soften as the sun moved closer to the horizon.
The first sunset portraits used the warm backlight coming across the water. I allowed Angela and Eddy to move naturally, stepping in with direction only when it improved the composition.
The pier gave us a clean line leading towards the open sea. Wide photographs showed the scale of the sky, while the couple appeared as a small but unmistakable part of the scene.
As the sun dropped lower, the colours changed quickly from gold to orange. We worked continuously because the best sunset light lasts only a short time and cannot be recreated later.
Once the sun had passed the horizon, the sky became deeper and more dramatic. This was the right moment for silhouettes that focused on Angela and Eddy's outlines against the remaining colour.
I also photographed Angela alone on the pier, giving her dress and veil space within the landscape. These quieter portraits balanced the large group photographs and busy ceremonies from earlier in the day.
Before returning to the reception, we made a final series of close portraits together. They were simple, personal photographs without a crowd, ceremony schedule or anyone waiting for the next event.
The reception was ready by the time Angela and Eddy returned. Long tables, hanging lights and the oceanfront setting created a relaxed evening atmosphere after the formal ceremony.
The couple entered through a line of ground fireworks. It was a fast moment with intense light and smoke, so anticipation and correct positioning were essential to capture it safely and clearly.
Dinner gave everyone time to settle after the long day. I continued photographing conversations, reunions and spontaneous moments between guests rather than treating the meal as a break in the story.
Several speeches followed, bringing laughter and emotional reactions from the couple and their families. I moved around the tables quietly so each speaker and the people listening could be included.
The photo booth brought another change of energy. Angela, Eddy and their guests used playful signs and props, creating informal pictures that were completely different from the ceremony portraits.
After the cake cutting, guests moved outside again with sparklers. The smaller bursts of light prepared everyone for the much larger surprise that followed.
A full fireworks display filled the sky above Angela and Eddy. It became the final large spectacle of the evening before the celebration moved fully onto the dance floor.
Once the dancing began, formal posing was finished. Friends surrounded the couple, music took over and the photographs became faster, closer and much less predictable.
I used the movement and changing lights rather than trying to freeze every frame perfectly. The slight blur in these photographs communicates the speed and energy of the party more honestly.
By the end of the night, the dance floor had become a joyful mess of friends, colour and motion. Those final photographs may be less polished than the ceremony portraits, but they show exactly how the celebration felt.
I am now based in Portugal and available for weddings here and throughout Europe. Whether a celebration lasts a few hours or includes several ceremonies across an entire day, my approach remains the same: understand what matters, plan carefully and photograph the real story without interrupting it.
