Proposal photo shoots Proposal Photoshoot at Ursa Beach Viewpoint October 9th, 2025
This proposal photoshoot started in Cascais, but not in the usual "hidden photographer waiting in the bushes" style. And honestly, I like this version much more. Josse planned a real couple photoshoot with Cristina, and during the session, at the right unexpected moment, he proposed.
This approach makes the whole story feel more natural. There is no need to pretend too much, no awkward hiding, no strange excuses. The couple simply enjoys a beautiful walk, takes romantic photos together, and then one moment changes everything.
We met in Cascais, one of the most charming coastal towns near Lisbon. It has narrow streets, small cafés, quiet corners, gardens, and that relaxed seaside atmosphere that works very well for a romantic photoshoot.
We started walking through the town, stopping whenever we found a nice background or a little corner with good light.
The streets of Cascais added a very romantic feeling to the beginning of the session. White façades, traditional Portuguese tiles, soft colours, small balconies, and quiet corners gave us many simple but beautiful backgrounds. Nothing looked too staged, which helped keep the photos natural and connected to the atmosphere of the town.
The light, the soft colours of the town, and the sea made everything feel calm and elegant.
After that, we moved closer to the waterfront and took photos near the promenade, with the bay and Cascais beach in the background.
Later, we continued the session in a park, where we created many romantic portraits on a bench and near the old castle.
There was also a small fountain nearby, and it matched beautifully with the couple’s outfits. Everything looked classic, soft, and slightly cinematic.
But the main part of the plan was still ahead.
I also wanted this photoshoot to have visual variety, not just many photos in one similar place. Different backgrounds change the mood of the story.
Streets, waterfront views, gardens, parks, stone walls, benches, trees, and old architecture all give the couple something different to interact with, which helps the photos feel more alive and less repetitive.
Light is just as important. In Cascais, we had softer shaded areas, brighter open spaces, reflections from light walls, and later, warmer sunset tones near the coast.
Moving through different types of light helps create a more natural rhythm in the gallery, with some photos feeling calm and intimate, while others feel brighter, more open, and cinematic.
After Cascais, we drove towards the coast near Cabo da Roca, to the cliffs above Ursa Beach. This place is dramatic, open, and incredibly beautiful, especially around sunset. But it also has one serious challenge for a surprise proposal: there is almost nowhere to hide.
That is why this format worked so well. Since Josse and Cristina already knew we were doing a photoshoot, there was no need for me to appear secretly from somewhere. We could simply continue the session naturally, move towards the viewpoint, and wait for the right moment.
When we reached the spot with the best view, I gave Josse the signal and distracted Cristina for a few seconds so he could prepare. Then he got down on one knee and proposed.
She said yes.
The moment was emotional, simple, and very real. Behind them, the cliffs, the ocean, and the sunset created an incredible background. After the proposal, we stayed there and took more photos together, with the light slowly changing over the coast.
This is what I like most about proposal photoshoots like this. The proposal becomes part of a real story, not just one staged moment. There is the walk, the atmosphere, the anticipation, the surprise, and then the quiet happiness afterwards.
For couples planning a proposal in Portugal, Cascais and the coast near Cabo da Roca are a very strong combination. Cascais gives you the romantic town atmosphere, while Ursa Beach and the cliffs bring scale, drama, and one of the most beautiful sunset views near Lisbon.
