How to Prepare for Swimwear Photography in Lisbon
Date of publication: 31 May 2025You don’t need to be a model to book a bikini photo shoot in Lisbon. Whether you're feeling great in your skin, planning something for your Instagram, or just want to capture the summer vibe, Lisbon’s beaches give you the perfect setting.
Here’s what to expect and how to get the most out of it.
What Makes Swimwear Shoots in Lisbon Unique
Lisbon is lucky: in just 20–40 minutes, you can reach beaches that look like movie sets. From wild coastlines in Cascais to wide sandy stretches in Costa da Caparica, each spot gives a different energy.
- Light. Mornings are soft, evenings explode with golden hour magic, it flatters everything.
- Diverse backgrounds. Praia do Guincho gives you wind, waves, and wide space. Praia da Ursa is all about cliffs and wild nature. Other beaches like Praia da Mata or Praia da Adraga offer clean lines or dramatic textures.
- Reliable weather. From May to October, you’ll usually get warm air and sun, but remember: even in summer, the Atlantic stays cold. Always bring a wind jacket or something dry for after the shoot.

How to Prepare for a Swimwear Photo Shoot
These shoots are about confidence, mood, and comfort. Here’s how to prepare without overthinking:
📸 Choose the right swimwear:
Pick 2–3 outfits you love. Solid colors usually work better than busy prints, and comfortable fit matters more than anything.
💄 Keep it natural, but intentional:
Light makeup, hair that can handle a breeze, and some extra touches like a hat, oversized shirt, or shades. Little details = more variety.
🧴 Pack smart:
- Water, towel, sunscreen
- Flip-flops or sandals
- Something to cover up between locations
- Baby wipes for sand or makeup
- Warm layer, especially if you go into the water
🧠 Be clear on the vibe:
Do you want something soft and natural? Editorial and sexy? Playful and beachy? Tell me, and I’ll help shape the session around your energy.
A Quick Word from Me
I’ve been shooting for over 15 years, and here’s what I believe: you don’t need to perform. I’ll help with poses, direction, and small details so you don’t have to think about it.
Most people aren’t used to being in front of the camera, and that’s totally fine. I create a space where you can just move, feel, and enjoy the moment. The best photos usually happen in between the poses anyway.

Timing Tips
Let’s talk real timing, especially for Lisbon.
Most beaches near Lisbon face west. That means: no real sunrise light, but amazing sunsets. The golden hour in the evening is unbeatable, warm, soft, and cinematic. But you won’t be alone, beaches get busy at that time, especially in summer.
If you want privacy, the best options are:
- Weekdays – way fewer people
- Late afternoon, before sunset – still great light, but not as crowded
- Remote beaches – places like Praia da Ursa or Adraga are less touristy (but require some hiking)
And about the weather: don’t panic if there’s rain in the forecast. Rainy shoots can be magic. Wet skin, soaked hair, wind, barefoot on wet sand – it’s raw, sensual, real. You don’t need a sunny day to get powerful photos. Whether it’s rain or ocean water, you’re getting wet anyway, so we can use that.
Bottom Line
Swimwear photography in Lisbon isn’t about perfection. It’s about confidence, energy, and capturing your summer story.
Come as you are. I’ll take care of the rest.
