What to Wear for a Photoshoot in Lisbon: Outfit Tips
Date of publication: 02 Apr 2023 | Updated: 18 Apr 2025I always like when people ask me about what to wear for a photoshoot, like:
- "What should I wear?"
- "What colors look best?"
This means you care about getting great photos. If you're not sure about your outfit yet—don't worry, I can help. In this article, I'll give you simple advice on how to choose the best outfits specifically for a photoshoot in Lisbon.
Where to start
To make choosing easier, I divided the advice into clear points.
Outfit colors
Lisbon is a vibrant and sunny city, famous for its beautiful architecture and colorful buildings. Pastel, white, or soft shades look amazing here. Bright colors are also great, but it's better to stick to one or two main shades, especially if you're not shooting alone.
Avoid black and very dark colors—they often look too heavy against Lisbon’s sunny, bright streets.
Choosing harmonious outfits
Most importantly, your outfit should match the location and feel comfortable—but not too loose. For example, overly baggy dresses might look sloppy in photos. Choose outfits you feel confident in, and make sure all participants' outfits match well together.
Style and fit
Light, flowing dresses work perfectly in Lisbon, especially in historic areas like Alfama or near famous squares. Dresses with a defined waist usually look best. If you prefer tighter clothing, just make sure you feel comfortable and confident.
Do you need sunglasses?
Lisbon is sunny most of the year, so sunglasses can be helpful. But keep in mind that on close-up portraits, sunglasses might hide your eyes or distract from your face. Just bring them along—we'll decide when it's best to use them or not.
Other accessories
Accessories can add something extra to your look, but don't overdo it. The main focus should be you, not your jewelry or bags. Choose minimal accessories that genuinely represent your style.
What shoes to wear?

Lisbon is known for its hills and beautiful but slippery cobblestones. For walks and shoots around the city, comfortable shoes like stylish sneakers or flat sandals are best. Heels can work, but only in flatter, smoother areas (like Baixa district).

What to wear for different photoshoot types
Let’s now talk about specific photoshoot styles and what outfits suit them.
Couple Photoshoot
For romantic couple shoots in Lisbon, women look great in light, soft dresses, while men should choose casual, comfortable clothes. It's about capturing your connection and feelings, not following trends. Wear whatever makes you feel relaxed and comfortable.
Family Photoshoot
For family sessions, choose outfits that complement each other in style and color. Pick one main color and add accents. Kids' clothes can be brighter and more playful—it always livens up the photos.
Individual Photoshoot
For solo photoshoots, pick something casual or a comfortable dress. If planning beach photos near Lisbon (like Cascais), bring swimwear, wraps, or beach accessories. You can check examples in my portfolio.
What NOT to wear
A few quick tips about what to avoid:
- Don't wear clothes that don't fit well.
- Avoid shirts or tops that gap open at the chest.
- Clothes exposing bra straps usually look untidy.
- Avoid overly short skirts or tops if you'll feel uncomfortable moving around.
- Don't keep phones or keys in your pockets during the shoot.
- Avoid black clothes when shooting against Lisbon's bright streets.
